Management Whips Junior Staff in Soccer - Junior Staff Defeats Management in Kickball
The Management of the National Social Security & Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP) defeated the Junior Staff of the Corporation 5 - 4 in a soccer encounter at the Barracks Young Controllers Sports Pitch -Monrovia, on Friday, June 12, 2015.
The drumming and singing of both cheering squads barely ended, when the curtain raiser in the game came. It was six minutes into the game, when the junior staff through Ignatius Blamo, volleyed in their first goal.
The Management side equalized five minutes later through a powerful 18-yard strike by Management's prolific striker, Deputy Director-General Nya D. Twayen, Jr.
The jubilation of management's supporters could hardly subside, when Ignatius Blamo netted in the second goal, coming in the 16th minute, for the Junior Staff.
Determined to prove that the toll of age could not prevent them from keeping in check the soccer prowess of the young boys, the management side pressed on relentlessly. And in the 20th minute, this paid off when they equalized through a kick from Sie Anderson.
The Junior Staff, counting on their youthfulness and its attendant agility, decided to give the "papays" a run for their money. This seesaw battle continued until the 34th minute, when Nathaniel Wolo scored the third goal for the Junior Staff.
About nine minutes following their third goal, the junior staff netted in their fourth goal through the effort of James S. Kollie. A half time the score line stood at 4 - 2 in favor of the junior staff.
When hostilities resumed after half time, the tide began to turn against the junior staff. The momentum generated by them during the first half was dying down, thus letting the management side to seize the moment. This trend continued until the management squad netted in their third, through the right-footer from the prolific striker, Deputy Director-General Twayen.
Spurred on by the latest spell of success, the management side scored their fourth goal through Sie Anderson, thus equalizing the score to four goals apiece.
The winning mode into which the management side got did not end until they sealed the dome of the junior staff side at 6:15 p.m., when they scored their fifth and winning goal through the Deputy Director-General Twayen who was the man of the match.
Earlier, the junior staff girls whipped the management women 13 - 9 in a kickball match.
The games were part of the Corporation's post-Ebola sports jamboree intended to reunite staff of NASSCORP and provide them the environment for social interaction after the Ebola lock-down and the subsequent freedom from the Ebola Virus.
