The third Phase of NASSCORP Village, comprising 70 housing units in Jah Tondo Town in Brewerville, a suburb of Monrovia, which was funded by the National Social Security & Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP) and constructed by the National Housing Authority (NHA), was dedicated by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf on February 14.
Speaking at the dedication program, President Sirleaf commended the board chairlady and the director-general of NASSCORP for “a task well done and the time required for the quality of units constructed.”
She thanked all the institutions, including the Liberia Bank for Development & Investment (LBDI), NASSCORP, the NHA and other partners that have made the “lives of the Liberian people better, as this is an opportunity to serve our country responsibly.”
She urged home owners to maintain and take care of the property mortgaged to them.
The President recalled that, 35 years ago, housing units of the likes of Cabral and Stephen Tolbert Estate started under the late President William R. Tolbert’s administration, at which time many Liberians rented those homes, and over the years have been handed over to the tenants with documents of full ownership.
The Liberian Chief Executive lauded the director-general for his commitment for standing behind government’s efforts. She further re-echoed the belief that Liberia is changing and developing.
In his remarks, the director-general of NASSCORP said it was an honor and privilege to give satisfaction and benefits to people of Liberia.
He said this was a testimony of his commitment that started three years ago. He added that it was worthy to note that the 5.5 million-dollar project, funded by NASSCORP and implemented by NHA, represents NASSCORP’s Corporation Social Responsibility (CSR) program.
The NASSCORP boss pointed out that the proceeds from the already 163 housing units will help construct the remaining units needed, as this is a success story.
He told the President that another dedication of the new NASSCORP Headquarters on 24th Street and the NASSCORP Medical Diagnostic Center will take place later this year, and that he will endeavor to do more.
For her part, the Board Chairlady, Madam Miata Beysolow, said it has been a little over a year and the quality of work of Phase Three of the project was not compromised.
She disclosed that the housing units, well-designed for low-income earners, are inclusive, safe and sustainable and that NASSCORP VILLAGE is well on its way as part of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). She hoped that the homes would become filled with laughter.
The Acting Managing Direct of NHA, Prince Wreh, said the construction of the units was an opportunity for Liberians to own their own homes at affordable prices.
According to the Technical Advisor’s presentation, the vision and objective of the 163 units situated on the 50 acres of land is to complete a total of 250 housing units at the end of the final phase.
The project is 100% funded by NASSCORP, and a total of 10 Liberian companies, including a female construction firm, carried out the project.
Phase One comprises of 58 units, Phase Two contains 35 units and Phase Three, 70 units.
The NHA, in its welcome remarks earlier, thanked NASSCORP for being a continued partner in progress and thanked President Sirleaf for her continued support.
The Mayor of Brewerville, George V. Curtis, Sr., thanked NASSCORP and the other partners for bringing “something one of its kind” to the people of Brewerville
