ECOWAS PARLIAMENTARIANS VISIT NASSCORP

Members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament recently undertook a one-day familiarization visit to the 24th Street Head Office of the National Social Security & Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP). The Parliamentarians visited NASSCORP on September 18, 2019, while in Monrovia attending an Extraordinary Working Session as part of the rotational convening of sessions in ECOWAS member-states. This was the first time in the history of Liberia for such lawmakers to gather and deliberate issues of sub-regional concern.

Receiving the ECOWAS parliamentarians at the Head Office of NASSCORP, Director-General Dewitt vonBallmoos gave an overview of the inner workings of the Corporation and said the Parliamentarians’ visit was a good thing for Liberia.

“It’s good for us in terms of education, health, training, social welfare, security, and a host of other things,” he added.

The NASSCORP boss further stated that the establishment of the Corporation was good for Liberia because the entity provides social security and insurance for scores of retirees and other categories of beneficiaries across the country.

Speaking during the visit, the speaker of ECOWAS Parliament, Moustapha Cisse Lo, asserted that the establishment and maintenance of NASSCORP was a welcomed development.

“We are happy to be here,” Moustapha Cisse Lo said, “this is a welcoming development in your country and a great strive by the government in its commitment to bettering the lives of its citizens even after active service in the public and private sectors. Social security and welfare institutions are very important in any country.”

The delegation was later taken on a guided tour of the ultra-modern, state-of-the-art NASSCORP Headquarters.
